Ever want to just run away? Or do anything to get out of your current situation?
While most of us cannot physically escape our lives, we can emotionally, spiritually and mentally check out.
How do you escape??
Lately, in my counseling office, I have seen more and more people, both men and women coming in for help to stop their addiction to porn. Now you may be saying, ?I don?t have a porn addiction so this article is not for me.?
Let me ask another question, Do you binge-watch movies? Do you watch every Hallmark movie available? Do you drink? Do you shop or gamble??
Yes, I use reading as my escape. For most of my life, I used reading as my drug. It was so easy to find a good romance novel or historical fiction book and just get lost in it. While I was reading I didn?t have to deal with anything.?
For women, reading or watching romantic stories is as addictive as porn. I believe romance stories do as much damage to relationships as porn but I will leave for another article.
People escape or check out from their lives periodically.??
It is easy to default to our escape drug of choice whenever unpleasant situations arise or we need to engage in activities that require focus and discipline.
So how does this relate to hope?
As I mentioned in previous days, hope is the end-product of tribulations (Romans 5:1-5). Tribulations and trials produce hope.?
The internet and social media are grooming us for instant results. Immediate weight loss. Same-day shipping. Instant pain relief. We can obtain any piece of information very quickly.?
We are not developing our skills required to endure. We default to escape because it is easier to scroll through our newsfeed, take a drink or sneak a peek than to push through the trial in front of us.
The world has rewritten Galatians 5:22-23 which says ?But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law??
The current world version is ?The fruit of the world is tolerance, happiness, political correctness, immediate results, honor pets over people, impatience and self-care. If anyone is against such things it is called hatred.?
It is no wonder that we are experiencing hopelessness, depression, and anxiety at alarming rates. According to the Anxiety & Depression Association of American, 18% of the US population has an anxiety disorder.? Suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the US. (American Foundation of Suicide Prevention)
Hope is only found in Jesus Christ!? Everything else is fleeting.
The methods we use to escape end up becoming our master. We become a servant to those things that we use to meet our needs. Our escape route is generally away from Jesus.
Want Hope? Stop running. Stand firm. Believe the Word of God.
Want Hope? Endure. Persevere.
Want Hope? Look up. Place your trust in Him.
Want Hope? Stop escaping. Stand and Declare the Word.
H – Holding
O – On
P – Patiently

Haven?t you had enough of your poor excuses?
This is hope for you, His name is Jesus.?
It is your choice.
Now therefore, fear the Lord, serve Him in sincerity and in truth, and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the River and in Egypt. Serve the Lord! ?And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.?
Please contact me if you are struggling with hopelessness, depression or despair and see no light at the end of your tunnel. There is hope for you!

If you have not yet begun your personal relationship with God, understand that the One who created you loves you no matter who you are or what you?ve done.
You can tell Him in your own words or use this simple prayer:
Lord Jesus, I ask You to forgive my sins and save me from eternal separation from God. By faith, I accept Your work and death on the cross as sufficient payment for my sins. Thank You for providing the way for me to know You and to have a relationship with my Heavenly Father. Through faith in You, I have eternal life. Jesus, I want YOU as Lord of my life! Thank You also for hearing my prayers and loving me unconditionally.
In Jesus? name, amen.
Jesus Christ provides a relationship with the Father and eternal life through His death on the cross and resurrection from the dead (Romans. 5:10).
In Romans 10:9, the Word promises, ?If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raise
